Year 5 Trip to Chichester
On Wednesday 4th May, Year 5 went to the Novium museum in Chichester as part of their unit on crime and punishment. The trip began with a walk to Emsworth station and a short train journey to Chichester before arriving at the Novium.
The children took part in a small workshop learning about the Hawkhurst gang who were famous smugglers in the 1700s. They learnt about how they moved around the south coast and what types of goods they smuggled and then located artefacts in the museum that were relevant to that period of history. Afterwards, they walked to Priory Park and acted out one of the stories about the gang in the Guildhall there. Several of the children dressed up and acted out their parts with great enthusiasm!
The children and adults had a fantastic day learning about a local gang who operated so close to Emsworth and the surrounding areas and all the children were amazed to learn they were sat in the very building the smugglers were tried in!
Thank you to all the adults who came and helped out. to see photos of the day click here.
