PE Days: Monday & Friday
Our PE days will be on a Monday and Friday for the Autumn term – our Monday session will be indoors and our Friday session will be outdoors. Children should wear full PE kit (a white t-shirt or their house colour t-shirt, black leggings / skirt / shorts / jogging bottoms, white socks and plimsolls or trainers – football kits and other tracksuits are not permitted).
On warmer days, please ensure your child has suncream applied on PE days and has a water bottle in school.
Library Day: Wednesday
The children will be given an opportunity to visit our school library once a week, during which time they will be able to select two reading books of their choice.
We will read daily in class and there will be opportunities for independent and paired reading throughout the week.
We suggest that the children bring one library book home, to share with you, and keep one at school for.
School Reading Book (Bug Club or Spot Book): Monday & Friday
The children will be able to change their school reading book once a week. We recommend re-reading books if they are finished before this time.
Longer texts, that require more than a week, can be kept until they need to be exchanged.
Outside Achievements: Friday
Previously known as ‘show and tell’, we love hearing about what the children get up to outside of school, whether it is a sporting achievement, a competition, Brownies, Cubs or an exciting excursion. We invite the children to share their news with the class on a Monday afternoon.
Celebration Assembly: Friday
As a school, we host our celebration assemblies on a Friday afternoon. Our ‘star of the week’ will receive a certificate in this assembly and their parents/adults are invited to join us. We also award two children with a ‘great job’ certification every day – these certificates are to recognise and celebrate those children who have shown great enjoyment, perseverance and success – in line with our school values.
Science
This term, our Science learning will take us on a journey beneath our feet as we explore the fascinating world of rocks! We will investigate different types of rocks, learn how they are formed, fossilisation and discover how their properties can be tested and compared.
Through practical investigations and hands-on activities, we will develop our scientific enquiry skills while discovering how rocks and soils are connected to the world around us
Computing
This term, we will explore ‘Computing Systems and Networks;, discovering how computers and devices connect and communicate with each other. We will learn about networks, how information is shared and how different parts of a network work together.
Through practical activities, we will develop our understanding of how technology connects us and the important role that computer networks play in our everyday lives.
RE
This term, we will explore the importance of symbols in religion, focusing on the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. We will discover the different symbols associated with Hanukkah and explore what they represent, helping us to understand the meaning and significance of this special celebration.
PSHE
This term’s PSHE theme is Healthy Relationships. Children will discuss family, friendships, and how to build positive connections with others.
History
This term, we will travel back in time to explore Prehistoric Britain. We will discover what life was like during the Stone Age, including how people lived, hunted, made tools and adapted to their changing environment. Through our learning, we will build a picture of how Stone Age life changed over time.
Art
This term, we will explore the question ‘Why do we make art?’ through the fascinating world of Stone Age cave paintings. We will study prehistoric artwork and explore how and why early humans created it. Using the United Learning scheme, we will develop our artistic skills through colour mixing, experimenting with primary, secondary and tertiary colours, while creating our own artwork inspired by the Stone Age.
Music
This term, we will explore ballads, we will be looking at the features of ballads, develop our singing skills and perform songs with expression and confidence. Through listening, singing and performing, we will explore how music can be used to tell stories and communicate emotions.
PE
Our PE days will be Monday and Friday.
In indoor PE, children will develop their balance, strength and control through gymnastics, building confidence in a range of movements and sequences.
In outdoor PE, they will develop their throwing and catching skills, applying them in different games and team situations.
Spanish
This term, children will begin their Spanish learning by developing their understanding of greetings and simple conversational phrases. They will learn how to introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions and use every day Spanish in the classroom. Through speaking, listening and repetition, children will build their confidence in using Spanish and begin to develop their pronunciation and vocabulary.
Writing
This term, our English learning will take us back to the Stone Age!
We will read The First Drawing, How to Wash a
Woolly Mammoth and Stone Age Boy, developing our reading, writing
and vocabulary skills along the way. We will make links between our books and
our Stone Age history unit, exploring cave paintings, woolly mammoths and what
life was like for prehistoric people. These exciting texts will inspire our own
creative writing and help us bring the Stone Age to life! The children will
develop their skills in instructional and descriptive writing and create
alternative story endings.
Whole Class Reading
This half term, we will be focusing on fluency and reading
stamina. The children have access to new text exerts daily, where the key
skills of retrieval, inference, prediction, summarise, and sequencing are built
upon.
There will also be a range of guided texts during group
reading where children can share their ideas and practise reading in small
groups. We will also continue to develop the children’s reading stamina by
ensuring that there is free-reading time each day and encouraging the children
to read widely and often both in and outside of school.
This half term, we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction. We will be covering the following learning objectives in each of these units:

You will receive homework for each half term that will be linked to the topics being taught. These tasks are not compulsory but are additional if you wish to partake.
We strongly encourage times table practise on TT rockstars but please do ask your child’s class teacher if you’d like some physical worksheets.
We strongly encourage reading with your child daily whether this be your child reading or you reading to them.
